The Mental Health Association in New Jersey’s Consumer Connections Mission Statement
Consumer Connections, a program of the Mental Health Association in New Jersey, is dedicated to strengthening and expanding peer workforce development. Through the creation of high quality training and educational opportunities, our goal is to empower individuals working as Peer Specialists to use their lived experience to support others in moving toward wellness and recovery.
About CORE Training
CORE Training is offered at various times throughout the year. If you are interested in pursuing a career as a Certified Recovery Support Practitioner in the mental health or co-occurring disorders fields, and you are a consumer in recovery, you are eligible to apply for possible admission to the CORE training. The 108 hours of CORE training and 18 hours of WRAP will satisfy the educational component for the Certified Recovery Support Practitioner (CRSP) credential.
The CORE Training selection process will begin with the submission of the Consumer Connections contact form, found on our website. Applicants will participate in a phone interview regarding their goals and interest in working as a peer. Many applicants will be invited to attend a mandatory three day WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) / Peer training. Applicants will be notified of the dates and location. Participants will submit a self-assessment and writing sample upon completion of the three day course. All participants will receive a certificate upon completion. Not all participants will move on into CORE Training.
If selected, students will be required to attend classes for 10 weeks. Classes will be held two days per week during those months. The CORE Training will be held at the Mental Health Association in NJ Training Facility in Union NJ.
The Fall CORE applicant period is closed due to an overwhelming number of contact inquiries, effective June 30, 2015. Please watch for information about the Winter session.
