Author to Share Stress-Coping Techniques at Family Support Group Meeting

The Mental Health Association in New Jersey (MHANJ) in Union County’s Intensive Family Support Services (IFSS) program’s upcoming  Support Group meeting will feature author Carol Rickard, LCSW, who will share valuable stress reduction strategies for family members who are coping with a loved one who is an adult with mental illness. The session will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at 7:30 p.m.at the Mental Health Association in New Jersey in Union County, located at 2333 Morris Avenue, Building C, Suite 206 (second floor), Union, NJ 07083. There is no cost to participate and registration is not required.

The presentation, “Stretched Not Broken: A Caregiver’s Toolbox for Reducing and Managing Stress,” will focus on tools and strategies that can be applied as one faces daily challenges of being a caregiver.

“As caregivers, family members often feel the impact of a loved one’s mental illness at a psychological level, and, due to stress and other issues, also at a physical level. We have found it very helpful when we equip caregivers with information, education and skills to help improve their own coping and adapting. As a result, the person who is coping with the mental health problem may also benefit,” said Parantap Pandya, MA, MHANJ’s IFSS program.

The Mental Health Association in New Jersey strives for mental health and victory over substance use issues for children and adults through advocacy, education, training, and services.
