Community Advocates
Community Advocates -
New Jersey, formally the
Community Companion Program is the direct advocacy arm of the Mental
Health Association in New Jersey. Community Advocates is a program
that provides individual direct advocacy on behalf of adults with
mental illness by providing support, education and linking them to
community based mental health and social services. Key services
include:
Mentoring/companionship
for adults with mental illness to provide socialization, roll
modeling and support in the community.
Direct Advocacy
on behalf of adults seeking to be linked with existing mental
health, entitlements, housing, medical, legal, physical,
self-help, wellness, educational and recreational services.
Group services
to Boarding Homes and other community based locations providing
support, education, recreation, socialization and advocacy.
Multi-cultural outreach
to under-served populations in the community.
Advocacy, Support and Training
of consumers of mental health services serving as advocates on
community based mental health and community boards, committees and
task forces.
Services
are provided by paid staff, community volunteers, student interns
and mental health consumers serving as Peer Advocates. All services
are available without charge.

Volunteers are always needed to
become part of the Community Advocate team to help us
expand our services and use your time and talents to help
those with mental illness reintegrate into the community.
Mental health consumers wishing to volunteer will receive
comprehensive training and support, and will have the
opportunity for employment as a peer advocate through the
Consumer Connections program. |
