Last Chance to Get Our Tax Credits Passed this Year!

With the current legislative session rapidly coming to a close, we are asking you to take immediate action to help get one or both of our tax credit bills passed during the lame duck session.

Monday, November 19th is the only scheduled meeting of the New Jersey Legislatures' Assembly Appropriations Committee before the end of this session. The tax credit bills that the Mental Health Association in New Jersey has supported (A.2591/S.1137 and A.2592/S.1138) must be posted on the Committee's agenda for them to have any chance of passage this year.

What You Can Do?:

  1. Call or Fax the primary sponsor of these bills, Assembly Speaker Jack Collins at (856) 769-3633, Fax (856)769-0049, and ask him to have Assemblyman Richard Bagger post the bills.
  2. Call or Fax the Appropriations Committee Chairperson, Assemblyman Richard Bagger at (908) 232-3673, Fax (908) 232-3345 and ask him to post the bills.

  3. If your Assemblyperson is on the Appropriations Committee, ask him or her to contact Assemblyman Collins and Assemblyman Bagger to asking that the bills be posted.

What's the Message?: Building affordable housing and neighborhood revitalization are good ways to stimulate our economy.

The New Jersey Multiple Dwelling Tax Credit Act (A.2591/S.1137) would create a stable source of funding for the production of affordable rental housing, allocating up to $65 million in tax credits annually for this purpose. The Business Incentive for Neighborhood Revitalization State Tax Credit Act (A. 2592/S.1138) would allocate $10 million in state tax credits annually to corporations which in turn would leverage $20 million in private dollars to help community based organizations undertake neighborhood revitalization efforts as part of an overall neighborhood or strategic plan.
