Action Alert!

Show your support for rental housing production for our country's
lowest income families.
Urge your Senators, Representatives and the Administration to include 
funds for housing in any economic stimulus package
the Congress may consider.

In response to the impending threats of a recession, Congress and the Administration are likely to consider a substantial economic stimulus package. In this time of greater awareness of the need for social and economic justice for all citizens of our country, we urge you to let your representatives know the importance of including in any legislation, housing production for low and extremely low income families.

An economic stimulus package containing a provision for rental housing production for our country's lowest income families would:

  1. Provide direct assistance for the members of our communities who are hardest hit by economic downturns; and

  2. Create jobs and wages. According to a recent report by the Center for Community Change, an investment of $5 billion in housing production can be expected to leverage funds resulting in 1.8 million new jobs and $50 billion in wages.

National Low Income Housing Coalition is lobbying on this issue. Your efforts would give theirs an important boost.

We ask that you take the following steps:

  1. Call your Senator's and Representative's housing staff and request that Congress include funds for housing in any economic stimulus package, specifically in the form of rental housing production for families earning 30% or less of the area median income. Ask that they convey this message to Senate and House leadership
