ACTION ALERT
February 28, 2001
To: MHANJ LEGISLATIVE NETWORK
From: Carolyn Beauchamp, Executive Director, ACSW
Governor Whitman’s departure from office leaves three significant initiatives championed by the Mental Health Association in jeopardy! Significant new dollars in the State budget for Direct Care Salary increases ($80m) the closing of Greystone ($22m) and the Children’s Initiative, ($24m) could be at risk of being placed on hold. Years of advocacy work is at stake. While Governor DiFrancesco has been a friend and supporter of human services and mental health, as he attempts to secure the state house, it is unclear how he will respond to Governor Whitman’s Proposed Budget. It is critical that Governor Donald DiFrancesco understand we are a large constituency committed to the success of these initiatives. Please write or e-mail Governor DiFrancesco today urging him to aid the Association in moving our efforts forward.
We have a sample letter to Governor DiFrancesco available.
